okay so i went down to the pond today, hoping to try out my new camera, but silly me i forgot, caught up in the excitement of a “new” tool, the ‘new’ camera is a 35mm film camera and i uh didn’t buy/have any freaking film! okay, repeat after me: “oops”. so while i was slapping myself upside my head, i noticed a father and son surrounded by geese
knowing the ‘resident’ geese at the pond, i knew what would happen next . . .
yep, here come the troops, sort of reminded me of the banditos in “treasure of the sierra madre
humphrey bogart trapped and surrounded, rifle in his hands, listens as they greet each other, before their ‘leader’ introduces himself and the gang: “buena senor we are federales” “you know the mounted police“
bogie, sweating behind boulders asks a simple question: “if you’re the police where are your badges”
the unforgettable alphoso bedoya replies: “badges? we ain’t got no badges, we don’t need no badges, i don’t have to show you no stinkin badges!”
after hearing their request and noticing their advancement towards him, bogie puts a bullet thru head bandito’s sombrero. in response bedoya says “hombre, we didn’t try to do you any harm, why don’t you try to be a little more polite”
the line became something of a cliché afterwards, even mel brooks in his comic masterpiece blazing saddles, saw fit to use it
harvey korman, after signing up ‘banditos’ for his ‘posse’, hands over a piece of tin stating “here’s your badge” only to hear “badges, we don’t need no stinking badges”
“badges, we ain’t got no badges, we don’t need no badges, i don’t have to show you any stinkin badges” a great line, a perfect line in my opinion (and you know that means squadouche) one of the greatest lines ever written
by-the-by, there’s a sign at the pond stating “please do not feed the birds” so ‘technically these folk were breaking the law
peace
